Families, individuals, and corporations can donate unrestricted
resources to the Community Foundation. These funds are available
to the non-profit community through an open grant application
process. 
The Community Foundation provides assistance to worthy
charities serving the people of Brown, Kewaunee, and Oconto
counties, Wisconsin.  Please see the other services that we offer
to non-profit organizations. 

Charities should share their ideas with the Community Foundation
before completing a formal application. Contact us to make an
appointment.

Hand-N-Hand, Inc. offers education and support to children between the ages of birth and 3 who have hearing impairments and to their families with a grant from the Community Foundation.

Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions about the Granting Process

Who is eligible to apply for a grant?
Organizations that meet all of the following criteria:
1) are tax exempt and have 501(c)(3) status under the Internal Revenue Code,
2) primarily serve residents of Brown, Oconto, and Kewaunee counties, Wisconsin, and
3) operate, choose a governing board, and provide services without discrimination.

The Community Foundation also awards special funds to projects that address issues involved with Alzheimer’s Disease, Diabetes, and Hospice.  Other Innovative ideas that meet emerging needs and opportunities may also be considered.  Contact the Community Foundation to discuss your ideas.

Special Consideration
Special consideration is given to proposals that incorporate any of these characteristics:
·         Innovative
·         Entrepreneurial
·         Collaborative
·         Leveraged Resources
·         Capacity building

Grant Awards
Community Foundation discretionary grant awards typically range from $1,000 to $10,000.  The average grant is around $4,000.00 per project.

Evaluation Criteria
The following criteria is used by the Community Foundation in its evaluation of proposals:
·         Projects that address the Community Foundation’s Areas of Interest and community’s priorities
·        
A well defined need/opportunity with a clearly defined action to meet the need/opportunity
·         Level of collaboration and innovation
·         Feasibility of project and likelihood of success
·         Reasonable level of risk
·         Appropriateness of budgetary items
·         Defined project outcomes and methods to report actual outcomes
·         Impact of total project relative to cost

What types of activities are not typically funded through the competitive granting process?
Annual or Capital Campaigns
Projects that promote any religious belief
Individuals
Debt retirement
Lobbying
Activities that occur prior to the awarding of the grant
Efforts substantially serving people outside of Brown, Kewaunee, and Oconto counties, Wisconsin

What is the grant application process?
1.  A charitable organization comes up with a good idea that addressees a community problem or an opportunity.

2. The organization reviews the Grant Guidelines to verify initial fit with Community Foundation criteria.

2.  A representative of the organization visits with the Community Foundation to share the idea and receive feedback. 

3.  The organization completes the application and submits the materials to the Community Foundation.  You can obtain the application online (above) or receive one in the mail by calling (920) 432-0800.  You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to access this file: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

4. The Community Foundation determines if it would like to work together with the charity of the project.  Grant decision are usually available within four to five weeks of the application deadline. 

5. If the request is approved, the organization agrees to the terms of the grant contract agreement with the Foundation and submits progress reports as requested.

What are the grant application deadlines?
January 15, April 15, July 15, October 15; if the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, applications are due on the last business day prior to the deadline.

The Crime Prevention Foundation has an application deadline of May 18, 2007.

The Green Bay Area Public Schools Educational Endowment has application deadlines on January 1, April 1, and October 1.
