Greater Green Bay Community Foundation urges local non-profits to check tax exempt status
Last Updated Thursday, July 08, 2010 5:10:15 PM
Green Bay, Wis. -- With the institution of new federal guidelines, the exempt status of an organization that does not file a required annual IRS return or notice for three consecutive years will now be revoked automatically.
Every non-profit now has a required filing no matter the organization’s total gross receipts. Beginning May 15, foundations will need to reconfirm the charitable status of organizations seeking funding. This means that if a non-profit organization’s charitable status cannot be confirmed, the organization may be in jeopardy of losing grant funding.
For more information:
• Visit the IRS website for more on automatic revocation,
http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=217087,00.html
• Check your organization’s status at the National Center for Charitable Statistics at the Urban Institute,
http://nccsdataweb.urban.org/PubApps/statePicker.php?prog=epostcard&display=state
.
• Contact Martha Ahrendt, vice president for programs at the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation:
