GREEN BAY, Wis. – Pulaski High School student Justin Huben has been chosen as the recipient of the Tom Garrity Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship fund of the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation.
“Justin is definitely a leader and an outstanding individual. He takes his bowling seriously,” says his league coach Jerry Polarek. “He excels in both academics and sportsmanship all while maintaining a job.”
Justin is in the Green Bay Major Youth Classic Traveling League and USBC Junior Gold Member. He plans to major in Accounting at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay.
The Garrity family established the Tom Garrity Memorial Scholarship to celebrate the life and enthusiasm of Thomas Cyril Garrity. Tom passed away in 1994 at the age of 17 as the result of an automobile accident.
Cathie Day, Donor Services Manager for the foundation, said that in her experience setting up memorial scholarships, parents mourn both the loss of their child and the loss of the child’s future.
“The Garrity Family believes by giving scholarships, that they can reclaim their future by investing in the future of deserving young people in our community,” commented Day.
Each year, the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation selects a member of the Junior/Senior Green Bay Classic Traveling League as a Tom Garrity Memorial Scholar. The recipient receives a scholarship of $1,000 toward their college education.
