GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation announced today that more than $200,000 in scholarships will be given to students in the greater Green Bay community.

More than forty scholarship funds are part of Community Foundation assets and they offer students funding for their education. Students receiving these awards will be studying a variety of topics for the 2011-2012 school year.

“The winners of these scholarships represent current year high school graduates or students who are presently enrolled in college,” stated Cathie Day, the Community Foundation’s Scholarship administrator. “We received many excellent applications again this year and our selection committee members for each scholarship had a difficult time choosing the final scholarship recipients.”

The Community Foundation and Green Bay community are fortunate to have an anonymous donor that recognizes the importance that financial need should not prevent the area’s brightest students from attending the nation’s top universities. The Great Expectations Scholarship Fund provides four students with funding each year to attend a nationally ranked university.

Each year the Community Foundation awards two scholarships for $40,000 and two scholarships for $4,000 over four years to Brown County students who attend one of the nation’s top 50 universities. Students eligible for the scholarships must demonstrate academic excellence and school/community involvement. Other criteria are also used for the awards.

This year’s recipients of the $40,000 scholarships are Mason Mocarski of De Pere High School and Corey Warren of East High School. Mocarski will study Biological Sciences and Spanish at the University of Notre Dame and Warren will study Foreign Languages and Literature at Cornell University.

This year’s recipients of the $4,000 scholarships are Brian Shannon of De Pere High School and Augustine Santillan of Preble High School. Shannon will be studying Biomedical Engineering or Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame and Santillan will study Applied Mathematics at Northwestern University.
