Celebrating Diverse Readers In conjunction with the NEA's Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers shift from focusing solely on Dr. Seuss to celebrating a variety of children's literature, this grant funded diverse book titles for teachers to strategically plan their read aloud together as teams.
Valley View Hallway Movement Path Funding supported the purchase of supplies to create an engaging hallway movement path that supports the school-wide positive behavioral support system, including structured motor breaks. Engaging in regular physical activity helps students prepare for and remain engaged in active learning throughout the day.
Hop, Skip, Jump, Learn. Learning through movement is the key to making learning "stick". With increasing emphasis put on core academics, movement can often be left out. Funding supported the purchase of poly spot floor markers which provide students with an opportunity to both learn and move at the same time as they are utilized to practice sight words, numbers, letter & word sounds, as well as vocabulary.
Mindfulness Matters Funds supported the creation of a mindful area in the classroom where students can choose books that help them cope with struggles they may be experiencing daily. Students also use this area to practice mindfulness strategies to improve concentration.
Legends of Learning Funding supported access to this resource that make classrooms fun and productive learning environments through research driven curriculum-based games supporting the learning of life sciences, earth and space sciences, and physical sciences for grades 3-8 and are built off the NGSS Science standards.
Business Financial Pros Funding supported the purchase of software allowing students to simulate the running of an actual NFL Franchise. They will estimate, monitor and calculate profit margins, investments and ROI on financial investments in an ongoing simulation. They will negotiate contracts, fire players, recruit players, provide signing bonuses, make advertising deals, set prices and sell both tickets plus concessions in addition to other financial choices needed when running a real-world business.
Remote Sensing the Geology of Wisconsin Grant funds supported the purchase of a professional grade aerial drone and an assortment of topographic maps of Wisconsin. Data collected by the drone will allow students to view unique geologic features found in the state that would otherwise be inaccessible. Imagery collected will be shared with geology professors at UWGB who have expertise to identify features of interest and with the Brown County Park Department who oversees several features along the Niagara Escarpment such as Bay Shore Park and Fonferek Glen.
T1 Calculators in the Classroom This grant supported the purchase of a TI-Nspire Navigator System for students to use and interact with one another on a daily basis. The calculators allow interaction with the instructor and other students through the Navigator software. These calculators provide feedback both to the student and the teacher to better enhance instruction in the classroom.
