Nonprofit organizations receive more than $79,000 in funding to impact women, girls in Northeast Wisconsin

The Women’s Fund of Greater Green Bay announces summer 2024 grant recipients

October 25, 2024 – The Women’s Fund of Greater Green Bay is proud to announce the grant recipients from the Fund’s summer grant cycle.

The Women’s Fund awards funds two times a year (winter and summer) to organizations that demonstrate how their programs and services will positively impact women and girls in our community. Grants are awarded based on a competitive application process which includes a review by a grants team of community volunteers. About the Women’s Fund summer 2024 grant recipients:

  • Awaken | Youth Prevention Programming and Sustaining Current Programming: Through this grant, Awaken will sustain their current programming and begin implementation of curriculum development for sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation efforts in Brown County schools for grades 6-12 in the Green Bay, Howard-Suamico, and De Pere schools. Learn more about Awaken at awakenjustice.org.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Wisconsin | Youth Mentoring for Girls: Funding will support an initiative to empower girls through mentoring relationships and female-based activities. This initiative will provide a safe and supportive environment where girls can explore their interests, develop new skills, and build confidence.   • CASA of Brown County | Possible Selves Programming: Young girls in foster care often struggle with identity development due to disruptions in their family and social environment. Research suggests that affirming their personal strengths can enhance self-esteem. To address this, CASA will develop the group “Possible Selves,” which will provide a safe and nurturing environment for girls to share their experiences, feelings, and challenges; focusing on self-esteem, goal setting, healthy relationships, body image and enhancing social supports.   • Hmong American United of Green Bay | Empowering Women & Girls: Leadership, Self-Esteem, and Education Initiative: The initiative aims to support and empower women and girls to become confident, courageous, and compassionate leaders, while also providing access to education and career opportunities. Funding will help implement a comprehensive program that fosters leadership skills, self-esteem, and educational attainment among Southeast Asian women and girls from diverse backgrounds.
  • Lovin’ the Skin I’m In | Igniting the Light Within Program: Funding will launch “Igniting the Light Within,” an entrepreneurial incubator for Black and Brown high school girls in Green Bay. The program will teach business management, marketing, and financial skills through workshops emphasizing sustainability and ethical production. By participating, the girls will gain confidence, leadership skills, and community engagement, addressing barriers to their economic advancement.   • Mandolin Foundation | Transitional Housing for Women Recovering from Substance Abuse Disorders: Amanda’s House is a transitional living program that provides support for women and their children, nurturing them through their journey of recovery from substance abuse and mental health disorders so they can rebuild their lives and embrace a future filled with promise and possibility. Funding will support the unique program which allows children to reside with their mothers as they navigate the path to sobriety.   • Safe Families for Children | Supporting Socially Isolated Mothers in Brown County: Funding will support the continued expansion of Safe Families’ work of surrounding isolated families within Brown County. Funds will be used towards programming costs for the 25 families and 55 children who are supported annually. The programming budget allows staff to connect community members to families and provide essential case management services to Brown County families.   • Skanikulat | Haudenosaunee Matrilinealism Program Development: Funds will support the Haudenosaunee Matrilinealism program, empowering Oneida women and girls through culturally grounded leadership development. The initiative aims to strengthen self-sufficiency, identity, relationships, and community engagement, counteracting challenges from patrilineal and settler-colonial influences for long-lasting equality and wellness.   • Tiny Earth (UW-Green Bay) | Tiny Earth program: UW-Green Bay and Green Bay West High School have collaborated for the last three years on a high impact STEM program for high school girls to conduct authentic research on a global health emergency (Antibiotic resistance) on the UW-Green Bay campus. Funding will provide transportation for the students, research supplies, and support for the winter symposium. Learn more about Tiny Earth at uwgb.edu/tiny-earth.
  • Violence Intervention Project | Youth Prevention Program: Funds will support youth programming in the Algoma School District in Kewaunee County. This program is designed to support strategies that create safe environments and encourage positive social norms in young women and girls. This program will also engage boys in allyship to harness boy’s positive influence to shift norms and cultures that are at the root of gender-based violence.   • Wise Women Gathering Place: Funding will support Wise Women Gathering Place which is a culturally responsive, community inspired and Native-led nonprofit that provides services including advocacy, healing, and prevention in domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, sex trafficking and other crimes. Additionally, they provide training and workshops for community members and professionals in a healthy relationship curriculum, healing from historical trauma across generations and communities, and facilitation methods that hold profound respect for and includes all voices.
