Funds for Greater Green Bay awards $134,000 to local nonprofits
In addition to the Funds for Greater Green Bay endowed funds, other donors are invited to co-invest in vetted programs. In this cycle, donors contributed $14,500 toward programs, creating even greater impact.
Grants are awarded based on a competitive application process which includes review by a grants team of community volunteers. Two grant cycles are offered annually for the Funds for Greater Green Bay. The next deadline for applications is January 11, 2019.
The Summer 2019 grants were awarded to the following organizations and programs:
Bellin Health Foundation, Brown County Population Health Collaborative
Funding will continue the rollout of a Community Care Team platform to over 1,600 individuals with disabilities supported by a collaborative of organizations. The platform includes establishing connections for sharing information, common protocols for communication and service coordination, and expectations for collaboration.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Wisconsin, One-to-One Youth Mentoring
Core mentoring program support helps match youth from the waiting list and recruit Bigs. The funds will identify, recruit, train, engage, and support additional youth and mentors.
Clarity Care, Help At Home
Help At Home addresses the growing need to provide affordable supportive care services for aging populations by offering reduced-cost supportive home care for those whose incomes are at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, are not eligible to receive government assistance for supportive services, and are in need of care for an infirmity or disability due to aging, traumatic brain injury, physical or developmental disability or degenerative diagnosis.
Curative Connections, Memory Cafe
Memory Cafes provide a fun, comfortable environment where people with early stage memory loss, along with their companion or caregiver, can relax, engage and enjoy the company of others who are on the same journey. Six Memory Cafes operate in Brown County.
Door County Memorial Hospital Ministry Health Care, Inclusion Through Wellness
This will implement innovative strategies that improve the wellness of individuals with cognitive, sensory and physical disabilities in the Kewaunee County community. These encompass three outreach programs designed to support diverse populations in need of specific interventions.
Encompass Early Education & Care, Weekend Food Packs for At-Risk Preschool Children
Weekend Food Packs support 95 preschool children at four of the most at-risk Encompass centers. This program provides food support for the weekend to help address three issues that impact learning: hunger, childhood obesity and nutrition, and brain development. Each week the program provides fresh fruit, soup, a breakfast bar, cereal, and crackers.
Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. Food Funds for Greater Green Bay
This grant will provide Food Funds to member food pantries in Brown, Kewaunee, and Oconto counties: re-granted dollars to member organizations to access healthy food from a warehouse of food products.
Foundations Health & Wholeness, Electronic Health Records – Final Phase Implementation
Completion of an electronic health records program will help people struggling with mental illness receive better mental health care by improving all aspects of patient care, including safety, effectiveness, patient-centeredness, communication, education, timeliness, efficiency, and equity.
Golden House, Employment Equity for Survivors of Domestic Abuse
Funding will support advocacy efforts and community partnerships to facilitate sustainable employment for victims of domestic abuse by developing relationships with employers who provide livable wages and removing the barrier of limited childcare options and lack of transportation.
Hand-N-Hand of Northeastern Wisconsin, Educational Program
This program provides opportunities for families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing to connect, promoting language, early literacy, and social and emotional development through playgroups, workshops, sign language and music classes, community outings and more.
Hands On Deck, Week Night Class Scholarship Program
Programs empower youth and families to succeed together through experiential learning focused on the science and art of building wooden boats and cabinets and the preservation of traditional skills. The scholarship program will allow low-income youth to participate at a reduced rate or free as the organization begins charging for its services.
HSHS St. Vincent/St. Mary’s Foundation, Nurse’s Nook Program
This addresses the health risks faced by children living in rural communities so they can focus on and succeed in school. Children in participating Oconto County schools are given access to basic needs items that help improve health such as food, clothing, and hygiene products as well as transportation assistance for medical appointments, referrals for specialized care, and access to medical equipment and over-the-counter treatments.
Literacy Green Bay, Children First Family Literacy
The Children First Family Literacy Program continues to grow helping participants achieve their GED while working. Participants pay a low, one-time registration cost.
Marinette & Oconto Counties Literacy Council, Project Tutor Leadership
Funds will assist Oconto County’s prospective tutors during their training process, at in-services, and tutoring new adult students. Tutor training will require laptops and Internet capability, tech support, supplies and materials.
Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Educational Foundation, College Comeback
Programs inspire low-income adults living in Brown, Oconto or Kewaunee counties to uncover their career passion and achieve a college degree for a family-sustaining career that leads to economic stability. Funding provides financial support for education expenses such as tuition and books to low-income unemployed or underemployed adults with dreams of higher education.
Transformation House, TADA Program
Funding will assist in the purchase of equipment, bus passes, and cost of helping residents become sober and maintain their sobriety through in-house programming, community support programs and possible mental health services. Breathalyzers, drug test kits, bus passes and in-house service costs are included.
WisconSibs, WisconSibs Program
Wisconsibs is dedicated to the lifelong needs of siblings of people with disabilities and will host two peer support workshops in Brown County for youth ages 6 to 17 who are siblings of a child with disabilities. Leadership training and opportunities are also offered to teens throughout the year.
Wisconsin Humane Society – Green Bay Campus, Youth Programs
Support will enhance youth programming that provides unique and interactive learning experiences with shelter animals to teach empathy, compassion, self-efficacy and cooperation to Brown County youth.
