Nonprofit Impact Initiative celebrates record grantmaking to strengthen nonprofits serving Northeast Wisconsin

Funding partnership provides more than $50,000 to organizations led by people of color

December 11, 2023 – The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation awarded a record $80,641 in capacity-building grants during the Nonprofit Impact Initiative’s most recent grant cycle – more than doubling the awards given in previous cycles.

Capacity-building grants fund tools and opportunities supporting the long-term success and sustainability of organizations serving Brown, Door, Kewaunee, and Oconto counties. Within each grant cycle, there are general grant dollars available along with specific funds to support organizations led by leaders of colors and those serving populations age 60 and older.

“Together with our partners in the Nonprofit Impact Initiative, we continue to evolve our practices to address the funding disparities faced by many nonprofits, limiting their growth,” said Zianya Saldaña, Director of Equity and Community Initiatives at the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation. “These grants provide an opportunity for organizations to grow their capacity so they will be better equipped to meet the needs of the communities they serve.”

Funds from the Brown County United Way Nonprofit Impact Initiative Fund for Leaders of Color helped provide capacity-building grants to seven organizations led by leaders of color this grant cycle. They are: Asian Corporate and Entrepreneur Leaders (ACEL), ColorBold Business Association, COMSA, Golden House, Safe Shelter, Urban Cultural Arts and Event Center, and We All Rise: African American Resource Center.

“This grant will allow us to seek professional help with building out our fund development plan,” said ColorBold Business Association President Kimyatta Ratliff. “Having a strong funding plan enables us to be sustainable and gives us the ability to consistently serve all entrepreneurs and nonprofit organizations of color.”

Support from Bader Philanthropies, which assisted the Community Foundation in establishing the Nonprofit Impact Initiative in 2019, continues to provide grants to organizations serving adults aged 60 and older. Three organizations were awarded this grants cycle: the Brain Center of Green Bay, Curative Connections, and East Shore Industries.

Capacity-building grants are awarded based on a competitive application process, which includes review by a grants team of community volunteers. Two grant cycles are offered annually. The next application window is February 1 – April 15, 2024. More information is at ggbcf.org/grantsprograms.
